On July 4th, Matiss Kivlenieks, goaltender for the Columbus Blue Jackets, was killed in an errant fireworks blast. Today, we learned that he died a hero, stepping in front of his teammate, Elvis Merzlikins, along with Elvis' pregnant wife, to save them from the blast. There were a lot of other people there that could've been hit if he hadn't done what he did as well. Matiss' death was tragic, and we should recognize him by having his number, 80, be retired in the Blue Jackets organization, never to be worn again by anyone.
