Reopen Columbia University's Baker Field Track in Upper Manhattan to the Public!

Reopen Columbia University's Baker Field Track in Upper Manhattan to the Public!
The Issue
Before COVID, the running track at Columbia University's Baker Athletic Complex in Inwood, Upper Manhattan was open on weekdays for use by the public, as a benefit to the local community forced to tolerate its noise and traffic during sporting events. It has been closed to the public throughout the coronavirus pandemic, but now that more than 5 million vaccine doses have been administered to New Yorkers, indoor dining is open at 50%, movie theaters and gyms have reopened, the CDC says students indoors can sit 3-feet apart while wearing masks, and some Columbia athletes have started training at the field again, there is no valid scientific reason for Columbia to deny community access to an OUTDOOR track in the fresh air, as long as visitors wear a mask while running/walking. New Yorkers have been cooped up for a year and it's high time Columbia #ReopenTheTrack to their upper Manhattan neighbors, who put up the stadium's loud football games before COVID, and who crave access to a safe, flat track to improve their fitness and wellbeing after an extraordinarily difficult year. Women in the neighborhood are especially keen on regaining access to this track for safety reasons. (The guard at the front gate can ensure only visitors wearing masks are allowed entry, and if possible, Columbia could limit the amount of visitors at any given time, but it should still be open to the community on weekdays as it used to be).
