Addressing the Threat of Gun Violence in CPS Schools
The Issue
Everyday when you walk into school you run the risk of being involved in a school shooting. We are a small group of students from CPS high schools working together to try to reduce the serious risk of gun violence in our schools. The threat is real and we are constantly reminded of it by current events, such as the recent shooting at Oxford High School where four people were killed: Justin Shilling, Hannah St Juliana, Tate Myre, and Madison Baldwin. This threat is not just something that happens in other places, as evidenced by the gun threats occurring in our own district, like the events of Hickman Homecoming. Lives depend on taking action before it is too late.
By signing this petition, you will help support change. We will be taking this issue to the school board on February 14th, the anniversary of the Parkland shooting. We are proposing a safety plan involving the installation of metal detectors at all CPS high schools and a call to change. We will be presenting this petition to the CPS School Board and Superintendent to show the level of support we have regarding this topic.
