Columbia College: Stop the Harassment, Start Negotiating
P-fac President Diana Vallera has been called to a meeting on Friday, August 24th with Columbia College Interim Provost Louise Love to discuss contemplated disciplinary action against Vallera that could include termination or suspension. This potential disciplinary action arises out of a complaint of alleged misconduct made against Vallera by the Office of General Counsel at Columbia College. The complaint against Vallera relates to facts alleged in a prior ULP charge filed at the NLRB by Pfac/IEA involving surveillance of Diana Vallera's home in January, 2012. The College's contemplated disciplinary action against Vallera comes exactly 30 days after an Administrative Law Judge ruled in favor of the union and against the college on July 17th, requiring the College to bargain in good faith with the union and including back-pay for members who were harmed by College violations. In addition, even more recently, on July 31, 2012, Region 13 of the NLRB issued a wide-ranging, consolidated Complaint against the College in which aggressive legal remedies are being sought on behalf of P-fac members.
We call on Columbia College to abandon its campaign of intimidation and coercion against the membership and leadership of the Part-Time Faculty Association at Columbia College and to stop wasting money, resources and energy discrediting 78% of its faculty and their elected leaders. This college posture does not serve the college community, especially our students. Support a good-will relationship and strengthen the school, the arts community, faculty, staff and students. This is a decisive moment in our history, and we call on Columbia College to exercise a positive and collaborative vision for the future. This is a critical moment. We ask the college to do the right thing.
