Urgent Action Needed: Support HB25-1079 in Senate Appropriations
Right now all public officials are subject to enforcement of the ethics rules through the commission. "For some reason" the ethics commission which ENFORCES THE RULES does not include jurisdiction over metro districts.
Its like a basketball game without any refs.
We've tried three years to get this passed. The first year leadership never let it get out of Tammy's own committee. The past two years leadership let it die without action in appropriations in the House. We got it out of the House and now it's stalled in the Senate.
HB25-1079 is at risk of dying in Senate Appropriations.
Please email each member of the Senate Appropriations Committee individually below and urge them to support HB25-1079.
One key member to focus on is Senator Jeff Bridges, who has not been supportive. As a candidate for State Treasurer, he should recognize the importance of strong ethical oversight for elected officials — especially when it comes to financial misconduct.
Please encourage him to at least allow the bill to move out of Appropriations and let the full Senate debate its merits.
Thank you for taking action to keep this critical bill alive!
