The Issue

The school board's primary responsibility is to do what is in the best interest of our kids. It is time to move forward, and get our kids back in the building NOW!

Since late October, the Colonial School District has offered families an option of sending their kids to school 2 days/week (hybrid) or to keep them home 5 days/week for remote learning (virtual).  We are now half-way into the school year and unfortunately, not being in school full-time has taken a significant toll on many of our kids -- educationally, socially, and emotionally.  Many CSD families have contacted Dr. Christian and the school board to ask that the hybrid option be replaced with a 5 day/week in-person option.  Studies over the past several months repeatedly demonstrate that schools are not "super spreaders" and are the safest place for children to be, and medical experts in our region and across the country strongly recommend that children be returned to the classroom on a full time basis.

Unfortunately, Dr. Christian and the school board are disregarding science and expert recommendations, and they refuse to present our families with a 5 day/week in-person option.  The low numbers of children currently attending in-person suggest that social distancing and safety measures can be maintained by allowing those interested to attend in-person 5 days/week, yet families are not being presented with this option.  Sadly, the administration is not even willing to survey the CSD families to see if the numbers are workable.

As parents of CSD, we strongly believe students should be given the option to attend school 5 day/week in-person, and we ask that the school board present this option NOW!!!  The virtual option can remain for those who choose to keep their kids remote, but it is not fair to hold back those who are comfortable with the safety measures already in place.  We can't wait until April or next September.  Our kids are too important, and we need to do what's best for them.
