The issue

Collingwood Football Club player Jordan De Goey was recently charged with indecent assault by Victoria Police relating to an incident in 2015. Despite this charge, Collingwood and the AFL have chosen to allow DeGoey to continue playing football.

This decision invalidates the many survivors of sexual assault as it shows the AFL is comfortable having DeGoey play despite being charged with a serious crime which causes pain and trauma to survivors of such crimes.

Put pressure on the AFL and Collingwood FC to not allow De Goey to play, to send a message to the public that sexual assault is not condoned by the footy world and that those charged with these crimes will not be allowed a chance to play and be praised on national television.

The AFL and Collingwood are showing impressionable young football fans that being charged with sexual assault is not a reason to be dropped from playing. They are showing young men around Australia that crimes against women are not taken seriously by influential institutions.

This is not OK. Sign and share to make our voices heard and end this support for DeGoey.

Disclaimer: DeGoey and all others have the right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty, however, it is disgusting that anyone who has been charged with these crimes should be allowed to retain a position where many people know and praise him.
