Petition To Make Exams Optional or Unable To Hurt Grades for Collegiate School Students

The Issue

Collegiate Upper school continues to have exams during this serious pandemic. We appreciate our school's determination to keep us in person, but with six classes a day, the constant wearing of masks and little to no social breaks takes an extreme toll on each student's mental health. Our middle school has canceled its exams. We have already had so many traditions taken away from us, such as homecoming, oddball, Feast of Juul, and convocation, so why can’t these be taken away too? Exams will only add to the stress that is already present during this uncertain time. Collegiate has done the best job at staying socially distanced in school and out; thus, we have stayed in person since the beginning of the year. It is in the student's best interests to have exams optional or to only count them if a student does well, so in that case, we are learning the material but not under an immense amount of stress. We don't have any ways to relieve stress since we aren't allowed to do most of the things that help with exam stress. Therefore, if there is limited stress relief, we should limit stress in the first place. Sign to help these students have a safe and stress-free end to the semester.
