This system of self-regulation is based on the premise that the College must act first and foremost in the interest of the public. Does this sound familiar? It should, it is your mandate. So please explain to us, the 1000 or more patients that no longer have a family physician why you will not immediately reinstate the licence of Dr. Duane Pelser. He did not commit an act of professional misconduct, fail to maintain the standard of practice of the profession or act in a way that is unbecoming to your profession. He simply forgot to notify the CPSO of his change of address in writing. That is it. He verbally told someone at CPSO, you used Canada Post to deliver items to that very address. When he realized he had forgotten to renew, he paid his licence fee and the overdue fine within the grace period. Someone at the CPSO informed him everything would be corrected in 48 hours. And then the CPSO reneged on your end of the transaction. And the CPSO will not admit to it. But that is fine. The CPSO does not have admit to the problem at your end. Just do whatever you need to do to get his licence back to him. The patient waiting for a cancer specialist, the patient waiting for a heart specialist, the patient needing a Doppler test, the patient waiting for a neurologist, the countless other patients needing prescription refills, the patients waiting for test results and the patients that don’t need a doctor immediately but will feel better knowing their Dr. Pelser is available when they do need him will breathe a sigh of relief and will thank you for doing the right thing.
