SUCCESS! NOW IMPLEMENTED! Scrubs Tops as an Option for CDU Nursing/Midwifery Students

The issue

Nursing and Midwifery students are currently only able to wear an embroidered polo top whilst on placement as part of the uniform. Many students feel this is uncomfortable and impractical, with many facilities mistaking students for cleaners/physios/or other staff. Staff on placement have also fed back that the uniform looks too casual and is not practical whilst working within health care facilities.

Particularly in hot weather, the polo shirts are sweaty, uncomfortable and tend to hold onto odour.

We request that CDU offer nursing and midwifery students university approved, scrub style, pocketed uniform tops as a uniform option. Whilst students recognise that the College needs to consider this as a whole, offering scrubs tops as a second option for uniforms will ensure those who do not require this option are still able to utilise the polos.

A second solution would also be for CDU to issue a guideline that describes an approved scrub top we could purchase ourselves (i.e. style and colour) and then supply us the digital file and design instructions approved by the College for embroidery at our own cost. Students can then organise tops themselves. This can ensure students are able to source the sizes they need and reduce any additional workload for the College to source new uniforms.
