Have College of DuPage name their Homeland Security Building after MOH recipient SSG Robert J. Miller

Despite opposition from taxpayers and college faculty alike, the College of DuPage (COD) Board of Trustees approved a $750,000 buyout of the contract for outgoing college President Dr. Robert Breuder a $750,000.  As part of this buyout, the college's board also agreed to name the Homeland Security Building at COD after Breuder.

As to the naming of the building, the college's board chose Breuder over a proposal to name the building after Wheaton (DuPage county seat) native Staff Sergeant Robert J. Miller, a local American hero who earned and was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor, our nation's top military honor for valorous service, for his service to our nation and to his band of brothers in combat.

This petition calls on the College of DuPage Board of Trustees to correct their dishonorable conduct and name the COD Homeland Security Building after Staff Sergeant Robert J. Miller

The following are the Presidential remarks regarding Robert J. Miller during his Medal of Honor Ceremony,

“While conducting a combat reconnaissance patrol through the Gowardesh Valley, Staff Sergeant Miller and his small element of U.S. and Afghan National Army soldiers engaged a force of 15 to 20 insurgents occupying prepared fighting positions.  Staff Sergeant Miller initiated the assault by engaging the enemy positions with his vehicle’s turret-mounted Mk 19 40-millimeter automatic grenade launcher, while simultaneously providing detailed descriptions of the enemy positions to his command, enabling effective, accurate close air support…

Exposed and with little available cover, the patrol was totally vulnerable to enemy rocket-propelled grenades and automatic weapons fire….

After killing at least 10 insurgents, wounding dozens more and repeatedly exposing himself to withering enemy fire while moving from position to position, Staff Sergeant Miller was mortally wounded by enemy fire.  His extraordinary valor ultimately saved the lives of seven members of his own team and 15 Afghan National Army soldiers.”

Please sign the petition below to call on COD's Board of Trustees to correct their error and dedicate the college's Homeland Security Building after Wheaton, IL, native and American hero Robert J. Miller.
