The Issue

The Covid-19 Pandemic has brought many alterations and complications to every day life. It has forced many students and workers to suspend their lives and move to a virtual way of communication. We as students have been forced to learn online at home regardless of our accessibility to resources and home life complications. While trying to figure out how to go back to school this coming fall, we have also been thinking about the stressing factors of standardized testing that was created in 1929, by a eugenicist, Carl Bingham, in his own belief that this form of testing will determine ones intelligence. Not only is this type of testing, ableist, racist, and non conforming to people with learning disabilities, it has been scientifically proven to have no correlation to one’s intellectual ability. It would be simply unethical to expect students to be able to completely understand material and get a fair chance of getting a good score on one of these tests when we are subjected to online learning. It gives no equal opportunity and many students struggle to understand the content given when they are forced into these conditions. So, i’m asking you to sign this petition to temporarily suspend SAT & ACT testing during this pandemic as it is simply unethical to continue it under these conditions.
