COLLECTIVE CALL AGAINST CRITICAL BIAS in Theater Reviews

The Issue

We, the undersigned, support a public letter published by Howlround June 26th, 2017, by 24 leading theater scholars, artists and critics from across the U.S. in a collective call against critical bias in theater reviews. <Read at http://howlround.com/a-collective-call-against-critical-bias>. Arts journalism, among other factors, wields significant influence on the perceived value, and future life, not only of individual plays, but on theater by women and writers of color more broadly. We support a greater critical diversity among theater reviewers to help transform systemic gender and racial bias in theater reception, programming and production.
