The Issue

Cole County Residents are respectfully asking the Cole County Commission to adopt the same ordinance as Jefferson City Code 5-15-H that protects outdoor dogs during life threatening health conditions that include instances where the National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm, tornado, heat advisory, cold advisory or a winter storm warning for Cole County Missouri. This clause would help Cole County Animal Control intervene when dogs need to be brought inside due to inclement weather. Cole County residents are tired of seeing dogs outside during severe weather, and the Missouri Revised Statutes that govern Cole County Animal Control only require food, water and shelter. Shelter can be any three sided shelter with a roof and does not truly meet the level of need that a dog has in severe weather. So we gather together here to ask the Cole County Commission to protect vulnerable outside dogs by voting into law an Inclement Weather ordinance like Jefferson City has. Thank you for hearing your constituents.
