Hold Colby College and Professor Neil Gross Accountable!

Hold Colby College and Professor Neil Gross Accountable!
The Issue
We are calling for Colby College to hold Professor Neil Gross accountable for the violent article that was written by him, an ex-cop, and is still being promoted by Colby. His opinion article titled "Want to Abolish the Police? Consider becoming an Officer Instead", which was published in the New York Times, is a tone-deaf attempt to promote policing. There are many things wrong with this article such as: a disregard for the history of policing, a lack of information about how/why Black people are disproportionately harmed by the police, the lack of analysis of systemic racism in the United States, a blatant misunderstanding of abolition, and a blatant disregard of his discipline (sociology). This piece of writing is extremely hurtful to the Black community at Colby College, and Black allies. If Colby truly supported its Black students, it would stop boosting this article, and demand that Professor Gross resign for his malignant words.
