MNC's hiring employees in bulk and then let them sit idly in home without any pay.
The Issue
I am a Computer Science Engineering graduate from UIT, Burdwan University (West Bengal, India) in 2019. On 8th Feb, 2019, I have been interviewed for the post of "Programmer Analyst Trainee" in Cognizant Technology Solutions at FIEM, Kolkata in a pool campus recruitment of freshers. I have got the offer letter for the same on 18th March, 2019 and since then I have done all the background verification process complete on time.
Now, It's been 8 months since I have been interviewed and waiting for the Date of joining from their end. Everytime I mailed them about update on "Date of joining", they reply to me to register on their "campus2cognizant" portal. A portal which is not working and you can't login through it. I informed them about this and they ended with a mail that "You are a part of active pipeline and you will get an update on your Date of joining soon as Date of joining is released totally on business requirement". People who have been interviewed after us i.e. On 16th Feb, 20th Feb, 27th feb and some even who have been interviewed in april got their Date of joining, but we who have been waiting from such a long time has been told that joinings will be released based on business requirements.
The question is that how they have business requirements for people interviewed after us and not for us?. Apart from this if they don't have such business requirement then why they hire ten thousands of people every year? They even started hiring students from 2020 batch, if they don't have requirements why are they hiring?
We can understand that joining process takes time, but there should be a proper management and point of contact for hired students. I have tried contacting cognizant enquiry number and mail id, I have also written to talentattractteam@cognizant.com but they all failed to help me getting a tentative date. Even if they inform about a tentative date, then students can plan what they want to do during that gap. They can learn new technology, enhance their skills. But hanging them like this from 8 months and then you want to have patience in them in not right because these students will now loose the freshers tag after 2-3 months. There are 1000's more students like me who are suffering from this pressure, pressure from their families, pressure from relatives, economical pressures etc. because despite being hired they have no job. I appeal you guyz to sign this petition and let this post reach to the IT gaint because before joining the company we don't want to have a bad image of company in our mind.
