Code Student Accommodation must cancel final installment of rent a midst COVID-19

The Issue

During the current state of our country regarding COVID-19 and as recent as Monday 24th March the national 'Lockdown' of the UK given by Prime Minister Boris Johnson; us, student tenants are still expected to pay the final installment of rent despite the majority of us haven returned back home for the 'lockdown' and a lot of us out of work due to the preventative measures our employers have made in relation to minimization of the spread of COVID-19.

We the tenants ask that Code complies with us by withdrawing all final installments as financially times are extremely hard for us as we are out of work and cannot afford to meet both our living costs as well as the large amount expected for rent; especially considering the fact that a lot of us have also moved out. This is a global pandemic and it is extremely alarming that an establishment of this magnitude are more concerned about their money as suppose to the health and well-being of their tenants.

We have been paying for a building that offered certain facilities that have only just been completed and to know have to worry about how we will survive monetarily is only adding to the stress. This can only result in the decline of our mental and physical health. We expect better from a company such as Code that puts emphasis on the well-being of their tenants.
