President elect Trump’s appointee for Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has allegedly expressed intentions to require Coca-Cola to transition from using high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) back to real cane sugar.

RFK Jr. has long been an advocate for health, particularly focusing on the harmful substances in foods and beverages that contribute to the rising epidemic of chronic illnesses.

In the 1960s, chronic illness in children affected only 6% of the population, today, that number has skyrocketed to an alarming 60%. Many of these illnesses—including ADD/ADHD, obesity, Alzheimer’s, and various cancers—have been linked to harmful chemicals, additives, and artificial ingredients in everyday products like cereals, juices, chips, and sodas.

As HHS Secretary, RFK Jr. has pledged to end the chronic disease epidemic.

There is speculation that he will push for stricter, EU-like food regulations in the United States, banning or restricting harmful ingredients and requiring manufacturers to use safer, healthier alternatives.

If RFK Jr. takes steps to make Coca-Cola switch to real cane sugar, it would be a significant victory—not just for health-conscious consumers, but for public health overall. This change could eliminate the need for separate “real sugar” products and set a precedent for other companies, like Heinz and Pepsi, to follow suit.

We must bring this issue to RFK Jr.’s attention. If his goal is to “Make America Healthy Again,” advocating for soda companies to switch to real sugar would be a monumental step forward. Once Coca-Cola leads the way, others are likely to follow. This would mark a turning point in the fight against chronic illnesses linked to artificial ingredients in American food and beverages.
