Stop Contributing to Landfills; Help Us Save the World, One Chip Bag at a Time!

The Issue

Did you know that most city recycling centers don't recycle chip bags? Why won't recycling centers reuse chip bags, we wondered. Chip companies, such as Lay's, Doritos, Fritos, Cheetos, etc. use bags that are made out of aluminum coated with polypropylene (a type of plastic) which makes the chip bags very difficult to recycle. Most chip bags end up in landfills.

Landfills are terrible for the environment because it can also produce methane which traps all the heat we create into this world. It can then overheat the Earth, like what happened to Venus. Landfills can also create a harmful liquid which can then leak into the groundwater, poisoning the water that we drink. Chip bags contribute to making a landfill bigger.

With Americans eating about 1.5 billion pounds of potato chips each year, think about how many chip bags that would be! When we, a group four of ten-year olds, realized that, we knew we needed to act, some way or another.

Now, before you lose your faith in your favorite chips, there is solution. The chip bags that we use now are excellent moisture barriers, which is why the chips stay fresh and crisp. The plastic bags used to hold cereal also keeps out moisture. The only difference between the two is that one is much easier to recycle than the other, so why not use the plastic bag that is used for cereal for chips as well?

This is why we really need you to support our petition. With your help, we can convince the CEOs of PepsiCo and Coca-Cola, the owners of many chip brands, to use the recyclable plastic material instead of the aluminum and plastic mess they use right now.

Please sign this petition and do your part on helping to keep this world as beautiful as it can possibly be for future generations. We can survive without potato chips if we have to, but we cannot survive without Mother Earth.
