Coca-Cola and Minute Maid: Stop using dangerous food dyes!

Coca-Cola and Minute Maid: Stop using dangerous food dyes!
The Issue
Minute Maid lemonade by Coca-Cola in the US contains the artificial food dye Yellow 5. This unnecessary – yet potentially harmful - dye is not in their Honest line of drinks. Yet Minute Maid lemonade is available at many restaurants and amusement parks around the United States and is often the only alternative to carbonated beverages in these locations.
That's why I'm petitioning Minute Maid and Coca-Cola to remove all dangerous artificial food dyes from their line of lemonade drinks (both powered and ready to drink).
Here are the reasons I'm asking Minute Maid and Coca-Cola to remove Yellow 5 from their line of lemonade drinks (both powdered and ready to drink).
Artificial food dyes...
- Are man-made in a lab with chemicals derived from petroleum (a crude oil product, which also happens to be used in gasoline, diesel fuel, asphalt, and tar).
- Require a warning label in other countries outside the US.
- Have been banned in countries like Norway and Austria (and are being phased out in the UK).
- Yellow 5 and Yellow 6 are contaminated with known carcinogens (a.k.a. an agent directly involved in causing cancer).
- Cause an increase in hyperactivity in children.
- Have a negative impact on children’s ability to learn.
- Have been linked to long-term health problems such as asthma, skin rashes, and migraines.
- Add absolutely no nutritional value to the foods we are eating and are solely used for aesthetic purposes only.
Minute Maid is proud of the fact that they created calcium fortified orange juice, recyclable plant based bottles, and juice blends that include the nutrient benefits of fruits and vegetables. Shouldn't they have the same standards for their line of lemonades (both powdered and ready to drink) and eliminate harmful food dyes?
