Racial Justice in Cobb County (GA) School District

The Issue

We are concerned for the safety and well-being of Black students who attend Cobb County (GA) Schools. We demand a plan to end spirit murder within CCSD, or we demand a change in leadership.

Multiple grassroots organizations and individuals have gathered to formulate a list of concrete demands, which are listed below.  The People of Cobb County and those who support us demand that the Cobb County School Board:

  1. Eliminate school district expenditures on police, thereby creating police-free schools.
  2. Hire more counselors, social workers, nurses, and other health/wellness practitioners.
  3. Adopt restorative justice practices.
  4. Ensure high quality and consistent anti-racism training for teachers, counselors, and administrators at the building and district level.
  5. Hire more Black teachers, health/wellness practitioners, administrators, and district-level employees. 
  6. Offer race and ethnic studies courses in the K-12 curriculum (Black, Latinx, Asian, Indigenous Studies).

We request an official response from the School Board within 14 days of receipt of this letter.  In the event that Chris Ragsdale does not communicate a plan to address each of the demands within 90 days of receipt of this letter, we request that the board terminate his contract.
