Traffic & Study Summary
Crash Data: 32 total crashes at Irwin & Villa Rica in the past 5 years
20 of these were angle (left-turn) crashes
Two traffic studies have been completed
Current intersection grade: “D” during peak hours (Graded A-F)
Options Reviewed
Single-Lane Roundabout (Villa Rica & Irwin): Too close to existing roundabout; causes backups.
Two Multilane Roundabouts: Too complex, higher risk of crashes/confusion.
Villa Rica's road volume cannot handle another roundabout
Proposed Roundabout (West Sandtown & Irwin): Preferred option by engineers
Traffic Volumes
Villa Rica: 1,200 vehicles/hour (peak)
Irwin: 400 vehicles/hour (peak)
West Sandtown: 600 vehicles/hour (peak)
Villa Rica widening estimated at $40M — currently on backlog and unrealistic to pursue any time soon
Proposed Roundabout (West Sandtown & Irwin)
Designed to accommodate 20 years of future growth
Located ~100 feet farther apart than current Villa Rica/Irwin roundabout
Projected peak grade: “A” or “B”
