As many CCU students already know, due to the rapid spread of COVID-19, CCU has decided to cancel Spring 2020 commencement and move it virtually instead of postponing it like USC and Clemson University. As a public health major, I understand the precautions of this, however cancelling it was not the right thing to do in my opinion. I am asking that CCU postpone our graduation ceremony, NOT cancel it. This has made most of us very upset because we have all worked so hard, and some of us have been looking forward to this for years. I understand the circumstances of this pandemic, but this is something that I have been waiting for. I feel that this decision has been made way too early, and could have been decided at a later time. Many seniors have already bought a cap and gown, and had made plans months in advance. Being a college senior, you put your blood, sweat, money, and tears into your education. We have EARNED our degrees, and we deserve to walk across that stage. I feel that this opportunity has been completely stripped from me and my fellow classmates, and I feel like they didn't even give us a fair enough chance ahead of time.
