The Issue

To my supporters,

I’m writing to you today after recently being announced as the Defensive Coordinator yesterday because something happened that seems unfair and I’m posting this for transparency & also asking for your help to potentially correct this decision by signing my petition that’s been made on my behalf.

I was told that my coaching position has been removed before it even officially started. The reason? A unspecified situation regarding social media. I’m took by surprise being as though my personal instagram showcases nothing inappropriate or vulgar and actually is full of football content.

Personally I find it oddly coincidental that the social media post I created for announcing the new varsity staff on the team page has gained over 30 thousand views, hundreds of likes, supportive comments, shares, & reposts.. that now after over a month of working with the team & staff that now a private conversation has made them decide to take back the opportunity without factoring in the effort I put forth.

To be transparent I was a troubled teenager here in Howard county & the same staff who were around 11+ years ago who honestly gave up on me & didn’t try to give me the chance to do better, are still holding me to that past.

By the grace of god I got my life on track & now live a wholesome life.

Things from my past that don’t reflect who I am today. I haven’t hidden where I come from. I grew up in a school system that judged me before it found a way to get through to me. I was a kid who was written off instead of believed in. And instead of letting that define me, I spent years becoming someone different & the biggest thing that helped me get myself on track was football. And for that I thank my family coaches & mentors that helped me along the way. I got my life together. I became a father to four kids. A co-owner of a retail business. I built a foundation. And now, at 29, I want to give back to young people exactly like I was.. kids who are up against the odds and need someone who actually gets it because they’ve lived it.

When Coach asked me to help build this program, I committed fully. I showed up all in. I am ready to be the person for these young men that nobody was for me for a while. Someone who could reach them because I’ve walked in their shoes and made it through.

But now I’m being treated as if based off my childhood, and implying that matters more than who I’ve proven myself to be today.

I’m not asking for special treatment. I’m asking for the same fair consideration anyone else would get. I’m asking to be judged on my actions now, not on my history. This is why I need you.

I’m starting a petition for the Howard County school system to reconsider this decision. Not because I think I’m entitled, but because fairness matters. Because these young men deserve a coach who understands their struggle. Because change should be celebrated, not punished. Because if we don’t fight for second chances, what are we teaching our kids?

If you’ve seen the work I’ve put in. If you believe in redemption. If you believe someone who’s walked through the fire can help others avoid the same pain. Please sign the petition. I’ve spent a lot of my life proving I’m more than my past. Let’s show the system that they should be too.

Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for believing in what we’re trying to build.

With gratitude,

Coach Hill
