Help Us Get To School On Time
The Issue
If you know me, you know I hate conflict. However, I cannot stay silent on this issue any longer. The bus driver for Granite Falls High School that drives us to Sno-Isle gets us back 10-15 minutes late everyday. If this was only occasional, it would be fine, but it's not. It's consistent, every single day we get back to our school late. I, personally, have driver's ed at 2:10, a class that I had to pay $460 for, and yet everyday I miss at least five minutes of class. And, when driver's ed ends, my mother and sister will have to wait for fifteen minutes to pick me up because my sister gets out at 2:00. Some students have addressed these concerns about getting back so late, and the bus driver has done nothing. When I addressed the bus driver, respectfully, about my concerns for missing driver's ed, she told me there was nothing she could do. This, however, is not the case. I go to Granite Falls High School. School gets out at 2:00, and the buses generally leave at 2:05. After this, the buses go to Granite Falls Middle School to pick up middle school students. I addressed this one day with the bus driver, who previously mentioned that if there was time when we got back in town, we would go to the high school first and high school kids could catch the buses there, as opposed to the entire bus taking ten extra minutes to drive to the middle school and drop off kids. Not only did the bus driver seem uninterested in my concerns, she lied to me. She told me the buses at the high school left at 2:00. How is that possible when students are dismissed at 2:00? Unless students are somehow appearing at the bus the second the bell rings, this is a lie. I ignored the problem for a while. However, recently, it has only gotten worse. Instead of getting us to our school on time she dropped two kids off at a coffee stand (which, I believe, is illegal), and told us that our getting back late wasn't her problem. If it was solely due to traffic, then no, it's not her problem. It becomes her problem when she ignores the pleas of students ("Can we please go to the high school first? It's only 2:01!" This happened today [October 11th, 2016] and once again, we were late.), and refuses to change. If there is time to go to the high school first, we should. It's common sense. I do not want to strand kids without rides, if we have to go to the middle school that's fine! It's the fact that she ignores the pleas of her passengers and refuses to listen to logic. She told us when we first started this new route that if there was time to go to the high school first, we would. This also seems to be a lie, as the opportunity has presented itself many times and she's still refused. We don't know what to do. The fact that we go to the middle school first every single day is a waste of time, gas, and money. I am very slow to anger, but dealing with this week after week, I'm agitated every single day after school. And I know I'm not alone. Many of the other students on the bus feel the same way. We are fed up with not being listened to. We don't want her fired, she's a kind, hardworking lady; all I want is for her to listen to our suggestions. If there's time, we want to go the high school first. If there's not time, that's fine! However, our current situation is ridiculous and extremely unprofessional. Please, help us get to school on time.
