CMS Petition to be Able to Transfer Points

The Issue

Some people consistently earn grades above 100%, which makes it challenging to maintain that grade because even a 100% can drop your score, say, from 105% to something like 102%. We should be able to transfer some of those points to other classes where we are struggling more. Why should we have to lose points when we get 100% on an assignment? Last quarter, I had nearly a C in a class, and I hated that. I also had more than 100% in a different class, and it would've been really nice if I could've transferred some of those extra credit points to a different class, like the one with a B-. Multiple people in my advisory agree with this idea. There could also be a maximum number of points that could be transferred as a limitation. One example of a way to enforce this limitation could be teacher approval, where the teacher in the class you want to transfer points to will review the number of points you want to transfer and either allow or deny the transfer.

Besides transferring points, an alternative could be something like an incentive. For example, if you have no late work, you might get an extra 10 points added to your grade. These options may be able to reduce the stress of students, especially considering that they would know that there are ways to improve their grades other than having to do extra credit or more homework and the fact that studies have shown lower performance in school often results from anxiety, which likely means that external anxiety decreases performance, which then makes a loop of anxiety and lowered performance.

Another option could be peers being able to give other students some of their extra points, which could encourage collaboration among students and also reduce stress. Some people may try to use the aforementioned peer help option to rely on others, which could be limited by setting a maximum number of points a person can give to others, or something similar.  Students could give others points only if, say, the other people have above a C, solving the issue of students relying on their peers to share their points with them.

I hope you will take the few clicks to sign this petition and make our school a better place.
