We are writing this petition to encourage the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education to create a plan for returning to school sports.  While this is governed by NCHSAA, CMS is currently not following the recommendation of its own governing body.  NCHSAA has authorized student athletes to return to Phase Two of a staged re-entry to team practices, but CMS has not even allowed our athletes to return to Phase One.  

While we understand that games may not happen this fall, we encourage the CMS board to consider two things:                                    1.  a return to practices under NCHSAA guidance.  Our student athletes deserve to be practicing their sports and preparing for an eventual return to games, and                          2.  a plan for an eventual return to sports.  Just because school is virtual indefinitely doesn't mean everything has to be.  We encourage our Board of Education to prepare a schedule for a return to sports, even if seasons are shortened and don't start until winter.  Plans like these have been created in many states that have virtual instruction, including Virginia and Illinois.
