Steel City Rourkela houses the Rourkela Steel Plant, National Institute of Technology and numerous other small scale industries. There is the Ispat General Hospital from SAIL which serves numerous patients every day from in and around Rourkela. Rourkela is also in the list of Smart Cities to be developed in Rourkela. With all these facilities, it is only logical to set up a government medical college in this part of Odisha. The college can be built in close association with IGH Rourkela. This will only impart better education but also advanced medical facilities to people from in and around Rourkela. There are numerous employees of SAIL (primarily) who needs the attention of specialities - neurologists, nephrologists, diabetologists, cardiologists whose service are very much needed. These are mostly families of SAIL employees, people from in and around Rourkela who need advanced medical treatment. There have been many casualties because of lack of facilities. This medical college set up will help address this problem and also provide a platform to provide better medical facilities from in and around Rourkela. This goes inline with the Smart City plan for Rourkela.
