In a welcome move for the citizens of Mumbai, Supreme Court has questioned Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRCL) that why it was not considering other viable options for construction of Metro 3 car shed over the only surviving green lungs of Mumbai, Aarey forest.
Citizens, Environmentalists, and experts have been protesting the construction of Metro 3 car shed in the forest and have already suggested seven alternative options. But MMRCL has been turning a blind eye to all the available alternatives. Environmentalists have been fighting the matter at the National Green Tribunal, Bombay HC, and now the SC.
In a big relief to the activism for saving Aarey Forest, Supreme Court this decision instils hope and faith in India's unbiased Judicial system.
