Save Eco-sensitive zone Kottiyoor

Save Eco-sensitive zone Kottiyoor
The Issue
Kottiyoor is a part of Northern Western Ghats, (WWF code IM0135), it is classified as a Tropical broad leaf forest. The region is a transition zone between the moist Cullenia-dominated forest in south to drier Dipterocarp forests in north. The region is classified under Critical biodiversity hot spot. The Kottiyoor forest is a part of Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. Kottiyoor is connected to Wayanad through the Brahmagiri valley which is rich in wild flora and fauna.
Where Construction work for a building complex, apparently a resort, by demolishing the side of a hill at Palchuram area near Kottiyoor in the hilly terrains of the district, without the permission of authorities, has led to serious environmental concerns. The place had suffered heavily in the rain last year and it is an environmentally fragile area.
It was in January that the construction work began by demolishing the hill and building roads. Even a small bridge was built across a river to the site in an eight-acre plot, without the permission of authorities. Though the village authorities had issued a stop memo and asked people behind the project to stop the construction activities, they have not paid any heed to it.
Last year, the ghat road here, Palchuram, was destroyed in the flash flood and landslide and the entire area had suffered heavily. Moreover, the place is environmentally fragile and many places there have the issue of soil piping, following which there is restriction on construction.
On top of that this construction is coming between Periya - kottiyoor Elephant Corridor,
The state government has submitted before Kerala High Court that the plan to restore the natural elephant corridors, especially Periya-Kottiyoor Elephant Corridor Project is moving in a positive direction.
Once it becomes successful, it will provide a lengthy passage connecting the landscape of Bandipur and Nagarhole Tiger Reserve to Wayanad, Kozhikode and Malappuram (Nilambur) and Mudumalai Tiger Reserve and other forest landscapes of Tamil Nadu, it submitted.
So these kind constructions will affect a lot of people living near that area like landslides and also animal conflict due to clearing the forest.
Help me sign the petition to reach the authorities.
