Close the gap at the top of the climbing structure at the Backyard Park in RMV

The Issue

The play structure at the Backyard Park in Rancho Mission Viejo, CA has a 3 foot gap that children must walk over to get from one side of the climbing structure to the other. The gap is large enough for a child to fall through and many parents worry about the safety of their children as they navigate this area of the park, many gasping as their child makes it across safely. It is a common conversation point at the park as parents believe this is an unsafe set up for the kids.

The consequences of a child falling can be catastrophic resulting in injury or even death. The height of the gap is about 20 feet, meaning that if a child fell, they would fall 20 feet to the ground.

With this petition, we are asking the RMV Association to close at least one of the two gaps at the top of the play structure to create a safer play experience for our children.

This will be presented to the Board of Directors on Wednesday, June 14, 2023. Please sign the petition and share it with your friends and neighbors so we can close the gap and keep our kids safe.
