Close Repulse Bay and its Estuaries to all Commercial Fishing
The issue
The commercial harvest of Mud Crabs, Barramundi and other species within Repulse Bay and its estuaries show every sign of decimation of the local stock to dangerous levels and has noticeably, negatively affected the recreational fishing sector.
Repulse Bay and its associated estuaries namely the O'Connell River, Thompsons Creek, Proserpine River and Repulse Creek, play an important role in the eco system for the Great Barrier Reef and local marine environment and are too small to sustain the constant daily pressure of multiple, excessive Commercial Fishing activities.
Stocks seem to have noticeably declined to dangerous levels that are not sustainable and it is negatively impacting the recreational fishing sector, due to the alleged current Commercial overfishing.
We need to take immediate action to close this pristine, fragile environment to Commercial Harvest and grow the stocks and recreational fishing sector back to normal, enjoyable, sustainable levels again.
A prime example is the Fitzroy River after it was closed off to commercial fishing. Show your support and let's make a change now so we can enjoy our local recreational resource into the future.
