Close Medusa Night Club after Monte Baker's death

The Issue

I am devastated to share the heartbreaking story of Monte Baker, known to many in the city as Tana. At just 23 years old, Monte's life was tragically cut short when he was gunned down inside Medusa Night Club in Cleveland. It is beyond comprehension that in a place meant for enjoyment and relaxation, security failed to protect Monte and other patrons, leading to this unspeakable tragedy.

What is equally disturbing is the utter disregard for human life displayed by those present. Instead of helping Monte as he lay dying on the ground, many chose to record videos or merely walk over his body during his final moments. This callous behavior is unthinkable and has no place in our community. Such events should never be repeated, and it is critical that we take action to prevent further tragedies.

This is not the first time lives have been lost at this establishment, highlighting a grave issue with its safety protocols, or lack thereof. Despite the presence of security personnel, they did not perform their fundamental duty of ensuring the safety of patrons. This negligence must not go unaddressed.

I urge you to join me in demanding that Medusa Night Club be closed to prevent further loss of life. The safety of our community is paramount, and establishments that fail in their obligation to protect their patrons should not be allowed to continue operating. Together, we can send a strong message that our community will not tolerate negligence and will fight for a safer environment for all.

Please sign this petition to honor Monte's memory and protect others from future harm. Let's stand united for justice and ensure no other family has to endure the pain of losing a loved one under such circumstances.

Please be advised that, per my understanding, the Club has shut down due to the most recent activity there. Furthermore, the City of Cleveland does have a Nuisance Law in effect, which I sponsored earlier this year, which could be utilized as well, if the Administration chose to utilize it. If not, the Council person representing that area can file an objection to the renewal of their license during the summer session of Council which then necessitates a State Liquor Hearing pertaining to their operation and their alleged negative effect on the community. Regardless, the City Administration does have tools in the toolbox provided by City Council which would enable them to take direct action against any nuisance establishment. I know that firsthand, having closed or blocked at least 104 liquor licenses during my time in Office. Don't let anyone tell you that the City cannot take direct action. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me. In fact, just call me at my office. Office of Michael D. Polensek Councilman, Ward 8 Note: The Change.org Civic Engagement Team reaches out to decision makers to let them know about petitions in their community and to help facilitate engagement with supporters.
