Close Down the NC Zoo in Asheboro, NC

Close Down the NC Zoo in Asheboro, NC
The Issue
I recently visited the NC Zoo in Asheboro, North Carolina, and was heartbroken by what I witnessed. The animals do not have the proper environments or enough space to live healthily. Instead of being their natural selves – vibrant and full of life – they seemed withdrawn and distressed. Many of the enclosures were far too small and did not resemble their natural habitats. It was evident that these conditions are not conducive to their physical and mental well-being.
Zoos that do not meet high welfare standards contribute to the suffering of animals. According to the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, animals in captivity need environments that allow them to express natural behaviors and provide enough space for physical exercise and mental stimulation. When these standards are not met, animals become susceptible to mental and physical illnesses, leading to shortened lifespans and other health issues.
The NC Zoo is publicly funded, and it is our responsibility to ensure that taxpayer money is used to support institutions that promote animal welfare and conservation. It's time to address the inadequate conditions at this zoo. Shutting it down will pressure local authorities to focus on restructuring and improving facilities or relocating the animals to sanctuaries where they can thrive.
Please join me in calling for the closure of the NC Zoo to prevent further animal suffering and to advocate for better treatment and environments for these creatures. Your signature can help urge the relevant decision-makers to take action and make a difference in the lives of these animals.
