Close down Tabby Teas
The Issue
Tabby Teas, a ‘loving home to 8 rescue cats’ or a cafe that uses cats like circus animals despite the detriment to their health. Medical neglect, keeping cats in extreme stress that has a severe impact on their wellbeing and a refusal to acknowledge appropriate cat care.
At Tabby Teas, the true cost of profit is paid by the cats themselves, enduring stress and potential health issues in a busy, bustling environment. These sensitive creatures deserve better; instead of stress and exploitation, they need peace, love, and quiet homes where they can rest and rejuvenate. Cats experience stress fuelled behavioural and medical issues, medical problems are ignored and cats spend their days in states of perpetual fear and stress.
Rescue cats should not be commodified. Many cat cafes claim to provide 'homes' for these rescue animals, but in reality, what they offer is a revolving door of undue attention and stimulation, depriving them of the dignity and care they rightfully deserve. Reports and observations from visitors and volunteers have repeatedly highlighted the inadequacies in care and attention these beloved animals receive, with incidents of overcrowding and poor hygiene standards. With 8 cats living at the cafe at one time, visitors have firsthand experienced the violent hierarchy Tabby Teas has created, in competition for food, litter trays, beds and comfortable places to hide, staff and owners spend much of the day separating fights, On one visit, a customer reports seeing Jon one of the cafe’s cats with scratches in several stages of healing. When questioned the owner stated that Jon would not come down from the highest point in the cafe as he was scared and that other cats had it ‘out for him’ Upon visiting, cats were not provided with adequate litter trays or water sources with no visible water bowls which is increasingly important in cats during hot weather; the RSPCA also recommends a litter tray per cat plus a spare despite TT only providing 4 for 8 cats increasing the likelihood of territorial fights.
To prevent this exploitative model from continuing, we call on local councils and animal welfare organizations to enforce stricter regulations on the operation of cat cafes throughout the UK. These establishments should be regularly monitored and held accountable to ensure the well-being of the cats.
Moreover, Tabby Teas should be closed immediately to prevent further harm to the cats. By taking such steps, we not only protect the lives of these rescue cats but also uphold our collective responsibility to treat all creatures with kindness and respect.
Please join us in demanding action. Sign this petition to urge authorities to enact and enforce stricter rules for UK cat cafes and to close Tabby Teas for the mistreatment of its animals. Together, we can give these cats the love and rest they deserve. Sign now to make a change!
