The Issue

Living near the Ramhorn Hill/Pepper Lane crossover and the entrance/exits at CR 4838 and CR 4840 off Highway 287 in Wise County, Texas has become increasingly distressing. These areas are not just roadways; they are a daily hazard for residents who have no choice but to navigate these unsafe passages. The inadequate acceleration and deceleration lanes make it impossible for vehicles to merge safely or achieve necessary highway speeds. This has led to numerous accidents every week, ranging from minor collisions to severe crashes, many resulting in horrific entrapments and, tragically, fatalities.

My neighbors and I live with the constant fear of becoming the next victim on these treacherous roadways. It is distressing to witness the growing number of preventable motor vehicle accidents (MVAs) that occur simply due to poor road design and management. According to regional traffic safety reports, Wise County has one of the highest accident rates related to highway entry and exit points.

The Texas Department of Transportation must prioritize closing these hazardous crossover and exit points and consider long-term solutions, such as reconstructing these entrances with appropriate lanes that meet highway safety standards. Research indicates that improving road design and implementing adequate entry/exit ramps can reduce traffic accidents by up to 30%. The safety of the community should always come first.

We call on the authorities to take immediate action to protect the lives of everyone who travels these roads. By addressing these dangerous areas, we can save lives, prevent injuries, and restore a sense of safety and assurance to all residents and commuters in the area.

Please join me in urging the Texas Department of Transportation to prioritize these changes. Sign this petition to advocate for safer roadways in Wise County, Texas.
