We the petitioners are calling for Alnwick’s Tory councillor, Robbie Moore, to resign his position with immediate effect, for which he receives over £14,000 a year of tax payers money to represent the people of Alnwick. He has however decided to become the Conservative Parliamentary candidate for a constituency in West Yorkshire, abandoning Alnwick residents to focus on Keighley and Ilkley, he has even changed his Twitter from ‘representing alnwick’ to ‘representing Keighley and Ilkley’. Why should Alnwick residents miss out on vital democratic representation which is paid for from their council tax, because the Tories will not make him stand down despite his absence. 

The pattern Councillor Moore has regularly demonstrated, is one of a career opportunist. Being from Lincolnshire, he stood for election to the council in Newcastle in 2015. After being beaten, he appeared in Alnwick in 2017 where he was elected. He then stood for Police and Crime Commissioner of Northumbria Police last month and has in a matter of weeks now managed to appear in West Yorkshire where he hopes to become an MP.

It was bad enough that residents in Alnwick were presented a Tory candidate who lived outside Northumberland during the council elections but this latest news adds even more insult to injury and is frankly a disgrace to the people he is supposed to represent.

We repeat the call for councillor Moore to resign immediately and trigger a by-election for his seat in Alnwick, as it is clear he no longer intends to stay in the town and represent our fantastic local community.
