Cllr Okereke, take down this fence

The Issue

We call on Councillor Okereke to remove the temporary fencing from General Gordon Square in Woolwich.

The Royal Borough of Greenwich has fenced off General Gordon Square in Woolwich, apparently to prevent potential anti-social behaviour (irresponsible use of fireworks) around Halloween and Guy Fawkes Night. This fence deprives people from Woolwich and the surrounding areas of an important and much used public space at a major transport hub. It is almost certainly bad for business in Woolwich and is damaging to the image and reputation of Woolwich. Worse still, fencing off General Gordon Square does not work as a policing tactic; last year it only pushed the problems to nearby areas. It may even be illegal; as far as we’re aware, there has been no public consultation and no notice was given to the public.

We call on Councillor Okereke to take down this fence immediately.
