Below is a n email I have just sent to The Leader of Powys CC which is I think self explanatory. Can I thank all of you for your ongoing support for the school and a special welcome to the 381 people who have signed our petition since the cabinet meeting on 23 Feb. Lets see if we can push these numbers higher and keep adding your comments. JOHN FITZGERALD "Dear Cllr Thomas I sat through the very badly run cabinet meeting on 23 March in the afternoon when the future of Gwernyfed and Brecon High Schools were due to be discussed, except that did not happen. Despite having a hefty but flawed set of options in front of them your fellow cabinet members opted not to discuss these instead concentrating on their hurt feelings because some insensitive individual had the temerity to suggest the 7 Montgomery members (out of a total of 10 cabinet members) might be biased towards the North of the county given the havoc they are wreaking in the South but not on their own patch. I was moved, for example, by the sight, Mr Wynne Jones, well known for his gentle and caring approach towards political opponents, apparently being close to tears by what he perceived to be an uncalled for slur on his integrity. Dearie Me! I had no idea we were dealing with such sensitive souls and clearly all of us need to be more careful so as not to cause the kind of distress that may lead to the need of cabinet members for counselling. What a pity the likes of Mr Wynne Jones are unprepared to recognise the real distress of pupils, parents, staff and communities at the destruction of our academically excellent and financially viable school, instead using misinformation and slurs such as suggesting it was academically poor when the opposite is true. The fight is not over by a long way. JOHN FITZGERALD
