The Issue

Recently on Sherwood Estates circle in Clinton TN the Cruze family lost everything in a house fire. It was a frightening event for the whole neighborhood. We were even more frightened and saddened when as their home burned to the ground the fire trucks had to leave the scene about every 7 minutes to refill with water! This is no ones fault it's it's pure math. When you have a 700 gallon tank releasing at( x) amount of speed it's gonna empty fast. This is a family neighborhood and thankfully everyone made it out except one of the family dogs Lela which as any dog lover knows was like losing a family member. We do not want to see this happen again. We want to be proactive because next time it could be worse. Please sign to help our cause!

“Thank you for this petition. We can certainly start the process of generating the request for a hydrant. That process usually starts at the local Volunteer Fire Department then is requested through the Fire Commission of the Anderson County Commission. The Chairman of the Fire Commission is Commissioner Therena Scott. The City of Clinton does not have anything to do with this area as it is not located in the Clinton City limits. However, we will work with CUB to help locate the hydrant. Thank you again for the request. If you or anyone who lives in this area is willing to locate the hydrant on their property please let me know so we can expedite the process. Thank you again. “First, I truly hate that this family and other families like them have had to deal with tragic events such as this. I'm glad Commissioner Wandell was able to provide the process we have to go through to get a fire hydrant installed in the rural areas of our county. In the cities, the citizens pay city taxes, in addition to their county taxes, and that gives them the extra services (such as fire protection) that they receive. In the rural areas we have our Volunteer Fire Departments that relay totally on our (the citizens) contributions in order to operate. The sad part is that a very small percentage of the households throughout the rural areas of the county actually financially support our local Fire Department. Presently they receive funding to install 1-2 fire hydrants in their district per year and that's if that water line is big enough to support it. A Developer can install fire hydrants in his/her subdivision when they develop it, but that in the cost of the development. Just think what service/protection our Volunteer Fire Department could provide if 100% of the households made their yearly contribution of $50 or $100 to them. A lot of tragic events such as this would become far and few in between. Let's encourage everyone to contribute to our Volunteer Fire Departments so these outstanding volunteers can provide us the Fire Protection we want and expect.
