Climate change, And what we can do to save the earth
Climate change, And what we can do to save the earth
The issue
Climate change is a serious global issue caused mainly by human activities such as burning fossil fuels, deforestation, industrial processes, oil refining, and chemical manufacturing. These activities release greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, trapping heat and warming the Earth. Climate change has been occurring since the early to mid-1800s and has worsened significantly since the mid-20th century.
The effects of climate change can be seen in both the short and long term. Short-term effects include more severe floods, droughts, bushfires, marine heatwaves, and coral bleaching. Extreme weather can also destroy homes, crops, and livestock. Long-term effects include rising sea levels from melting ice, increasing ocean acidity that damages marine life, and more frequent heatwaves. As temperatures continue to rise, water shortages and food insecurity may become more common. If action is not taken, climate change will continue to threaten ecosystems, communities, and future generations around the world.
