Please join us in reminding Mayor Anzaldi and the rest of the Clifton City Council that 61.6% of Clifton voters supported NJ’s Ballot Question 1 to amend our state’s constitution and to legalize (and tax) marijuana. Clifton stands to benefit hugely from allowing at least some of these legal cannabis businesses to operate within our city limits.

Cannabis businesses could help other existing businesses in town to flourish and would revitalize our commercial spaces. These new businesses will bring new jobs. Legal and regulated marijuana products are safer than buying it from that guy under the bridge and dispensaries (which are just one of the six license types) are not permitted to sell to minors.

NJ expects to see approximately $300,000,000 in tax revenue per YEAR in recreational marijuana sales. With numbers like this, how can Clifton leadership even consider banning all six license classes and prevent us from benefitting from our share?

Under NJ law, towns are not allowed to ban their residents from consuming marijuana, nor can they ban licensed cannabis delivery companies from making stops within their borders. This means that Clifton residents will still be allowed to buy and use marijuana...we will simply be supporting other municipalities, like nearby Montclair, with our dollars instead of keeping them here to benefit Clifton.

Extra money (potentially millions) in our city budget could go towards things like:

- police salaries

- drug abuse education

- recreational programs for children

- city park improvements

- preventing a property tax increase

Clifton’s leadership has an opportunity to be forward-thinkers and establish a culture of acceptance and innovation!

You do not have to be a marijuana user yourself. You don’t even have to agree with its legalization. But if you believe that Clifton leadership has a duty to respect its constituents’ votes and to allow at least some of the six cannabis business licenses to operate here, please sign and share this petition with other Clifton voters.
