2. (a) TELL US ABOUT YOUR NOMINEE AND WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT HIS/HER WORK:
Marc Ching has made 7 different trips to Asia to try and either stop the Yulin Dog Meat Festival or try to get China to stop eating dog meat in some way altogether. The dog meat trade is completely cruel. Unless you are there to witness what these dogs/cats go through, there are no words to describe the horror. Dogs/cats are torched, hanged, beaten, boiled and tortured ALIVE. Marc Ching is the most compassionate person, and very brave in his mission to stop this trade.
2. (b) ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND IMPACT:
Marc Ching just recently flew to Asia to destroy as many dog/cat slaughterhouses as he could. But, because things did not go as planned, Marc was only able to destroy two of the three slaughterhouses that he planned on destroying. He was beaten up by dog traders in his quest to destroy them.
This is only one of Marc's missions in trying to defeat the Asian dog trade business. One mission, called the “Compassion Project,” Marc planned on taking over 7-8 slaughterhouses, and ripping them to the ground. In order to make the deal happen with one slaughterhouse, he promised the owner he would help him start a new business (a vegetarian noodle restaurant), and the opportunity to start a new life. They killed, on average, 20 to 60 dogs a day at that particular location, and it was an extreme abuse operation. The number of lives saved by the shutting down just this one slaughterhouse alone could exceed over 15,000 a year.
