Hello,
My name's Luis Lua. I'm 46 years old , and I have been incarcerated since 6-19-97. I made wrong choices when I was young,that lead me to make a horrible mistake. I took the life of a young man. I know now that there are other ways that one can live a life. This choice has made me loose out on a lot of moments with family, friends and life it self. One doesn't realize the impact that a wrong choice will have on others. There are only two ways to live in prison,one is to continue down the path of drug use, violence, just stuck in old habits. The other is to take full advantage of the programs that prison's offer. Throughout the years I have taken the latter. I have taken bible studies and have become a licensed minister. I have taken a program called Challenge Program which deal's with cognitive behavior, drug use and it is a 500 hour residential program. I completed the program in 2013 and stayed. I became a mentor which helped me to be involved in other programs like,being a suicide companion and senior guide. This program encouraged me to get my GED which I got in June of 2014. I have taken other classes as well. I also crochet blankets for the premature ward at the hospital. I have also made afgans and crocheted hats for veterans in the past. The more you do for others the more the world becomes better. I believe people just need a second chance, and this is why I have now have decided to do this.
