Residents living near to New Cross Gate station and those commuting from the station are faced with a growing ‘football pitch sized’ mountain of rubbish.

It is an eyesore as well as a public health hazard to residents.

The site is privately owned by Reliant Building Contractors who are responsible for safeguarding the site and removing the waste. However reports now suggest the scale of the problem is such that Lewisham Council and the Environment Agency have had to step in to help meet the cost of the removal of the waste. Reports suggest the ever growing mountain of rubbish on the site is made up of construction waste collected across the area and illegally dumped on the site over several months.

Residents have been subjected to the mountain of rubbish and the ever present health risk for months. It makes a terrible impression for those passing through the area and in particular through New Cross Gate station and without intervention will only continue to get worse.

We are calling on residents and those effected by the Deptford Dump, to add their support to a call for immediate action by the owners, Reliant Building Contractors, Lewisham Council and the Environment Agency, to remove the rubbish as quickly as possible to reduce the immediate public health risk this poses to those living and working around the site.

In the longer term, we should like the site to be properly secured in order to prevent further such issues.
