Close CCSD Schools due to COVID-19 & Student Safety Concerns

To the Clark County School District:
Due to evergrowing concerns of the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus), it's time that the Board of Trustees, Superintendent Jesus Jara, and other District Members protect the health & safety of more than 320,000 Students & Staff.
After canceling Out-of-State & International Field Trips and all After-School Activities and Sports, it is foolish to somehow believe that measures like these will be effective in stopping the spread of Coronavirus when those same students interact with one another in packed classrooms with little to no "safe distance".
In addition to these risky conditions at Schools, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak has declared a State of Emergency due to the COVID-19/Coronavirus outbreak. Furthermore, the CDC reports that the benefits of closing a school include time to properly clean & decontaminate school property, allows for local health districts to better understand the virus, and, allows students who may have the virus to develop symptoms outside of school in an isolated environment.
CCSD should follow the lead of the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) in canceling in-person classes at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), and the College of Southern Nevada (CSN). This measure of canceling in-person classes has already been done outside of Nevada, including at the Houston Independent School District (HISD - Houston, TX), The George Washington University (Washington, D.C), Harvard University (Cambridge, MA), and many more School Districts & Universities.
Ensuring the safety of more than 320,000 Students & Staff should be of the utmost importance to the Clark County School District, and by signing this petition, you agree that Student Safety is a top priority and that schools should be transitioned online.
