Place the Liberace Mansion on the Historical Preservation List

The Issue

Recently, I had the utmost pleasure and honor visiting my friend, Martyn Ravenhill, the new owner and restorer of the Liberace Mansion in Las Vegas, Nevada. Martyn has, and still is restoring our beloved Liberace’s home and doing a magnificent job! The restoration has been no small undertaking and the cost has been enormous due to the mansion falling into disrepair from being vacant and in foreclosure for such a long period of time. Liberace bought his homes in nondescript neighborhoods. He chose not to live in the midst of the wealthy and influential. Liberace never forgot his roots and growing up poor. The Liberace Mansion sits in one of these nondescript neighborhoods on Shirley Street. On one side of the busy highway is the University of Nevada at Las Vegas (UNLV). On the other side of the mansion is the super busy McCarran International Airport. Both the UNLV and McCarran Airport are buying up all the land around them for future expansion. The Liberace Mansion is right in the middle of this land that they are buying up. PLEASE NOTE: The Liberace Mansion IS NOT in any danger AT THIS TIME. HOWEVER, in the very near future, it CAN and WILL be, including all the homes that surround the mansion! There is a very high probability that all the property surrounding and INCLUDING the Mansion will be bought up by either the UNLV or McCarran airport for expansion. If this happens, the Mansion will be DEMOLISHED! Not only will we lose our beloved Liberace’s home, but Martyn will lose HIS home and there would be nothing that anyone can do about it!
WE can do something about it RIGHT NOW!  Liberace helped make Las Vegas not only in the entertainment field, but all the money that he helped bring into the city of Las Vegas! The Liberace Foundation for the Performing and Creative Arts has given over $6 million dollars in scholarships to students who are studying the arts. Several colleges and universities that benefit from these scholarships are in Nevada, INCLUDING the University of Nevada at Las Vegas! If we can get the Mansion listed as a Historical Site, then neither the UNLV nor McCarran Airport can buy the mansion property and demolish it! The Liberace Mansion will be FOREVER SAFE as a HISTORICAL SITE!  It’s time that we gave something back in our thanks and appreciation for all that Liberace has done. PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION TODAY! Don’t let the UNLV nor McCarran Airport demolish Liberace’s home!
