The drive for as many submissions via email to Mayo county council on their plans for a Velorail along the greenway route is on, The proposed Velorail project on the closed railway for 15km at Kiltimagh will stop our greenway from Sligo to Athenry from happening, unless Mayo coco listen and act on what we need to say to them.
Mayo county council have placed public notices about their intention as a council to develop the VeloRail project.
The planning notice which is called a Section 8 planning notification makes NO MENTION OR EFFORT to have a path alongside the closed railway which would act as a safety/exit path and double up as a public path and Greenway. Submissions can be made free of charge by any member of the publice on this project so please start firing submissions in; it cost nothing to make an observation on a section 8 planning notification.

Submission on Kiltimagh Velorail project - Part 8
The points to make are:
o The Velorail planned for 15km at Kiltimagh using the closed railway has no contingency for people to leave the velorail in an emergency. A parallel pathway is essential for health and safety.
o The health and safety path could be also be used as a public path and greenway thus increasing the usage of this public amenity beyond those who can afford or want to pay to use a velorail, providing a free to use local facility
o The Sligo Greenway supported by Sligo County Council will terminate at the county border at Bellaghy/Charlestown.
o The Quiet Man Greenway supported by Galway County Council will use the closed railway from Athenry to the Mayo county border. It seems only Mayo county council wants to deny the huge tourism potential of a greenway from Athenry to Collooney.
o The Velorail project needs to facilitate a greenway alongside the closed railway for the reasons of health and safety, tourism potential and free local access to the community, please listen to what people are saying about this project.
