"£26, 000" - what's wrong with that? It's a decent wage compared to what most people are on"
There's always one isn't there.
My response to you:
Its a decent wage compared with most who are NOT risking their life & pin everyday.
It's a decent wage compared with most who are NOT working in an institution with over 100 000 staff short everyday... People are living longer because of life saving interventions that WE provide - the service is becoming more and more demanding EVERY. SINGLE. DAY
The problem is the fact that we are doing the job of more than one person on wage that continuously undermines what we actually do. A nurse isn't just a nurse! We are the nurse that must have indepth knowledge of anatomy & physiology before the clinical skill set acquired to apply that knowledge in order to save and maintain life. No one wakes up a critical care nurse without having to take on extra days of study and clinical skills days. Without having to prove competence. We are receptionists, councillors, cleaners, I.T goers, we are one person responsible for many roles & and for many vulnerable people. The job role is changing, becoming more demanding and more dangerous for staff and for patients. We are not robots with an on and off button. NOR ARE WE SLAVES AND THE BAIT OF THIS GOVERNMENT. The life of a loved one is priceless - NHS workers - like everyone else - who are also treated unfairly in terms of their pay - Deserve to be paid in line with the cost of living so that they can work to live - not live to work.
Domestics are not just domestics, they are the bread and butter of infection control & prevention working tirelessly to ensure a clean and safe environment for all staff and patients - continuously. They also need knowledge of infectious diseases in order to carry out their roles successfully and safely.
Porters are not a taxi service - but the link between life and death - racing around all floors at 100 mph delivering life saving blood products to wards, theaters, itu... Racing patients through theatre doors for emergency surgery covering miles and miles on foot
Nursing assistants are what the nursing role used to be, so in my view they should be paid what qualified nurses are paid now. Their roles have also changed and expanded beyond the pay band it commenced on.
DO. MORE. FOR. LESS. NHS
I THINK NOT.
END. OF. DISCUSSION
