Why this petition matters

Started by Grace Skelton

From Monday 7th February First Bus will be changing their timetables again and the impact to the commuters that board the Numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4 will be substantial. With early services cancelled and new services giving zero thought to those catching changeovers and connections who will now have to make mad dashes for train stations and bus stops in the pitch dark just to make it by the skin of their teeth, all this supposing your bus is not late by 15-20 minutes or even if it arrives at all.

They marooned the elderly in Stenhousemuir, forced commuters from Polmont to take multiple trains to Larbert or arrive hours late and now factory workers heading to Bo'ness will struggle to get there for eight o'clock, never mind six, meaning many will have to fork out daily for expensive cabs that mean they will be earning less money than if they were out of work and on benefits.

It is clear that First Bus cannot cope with the demand of the people of Falkirk and our surrounding area. That is why we are calling on Scottish Transport Commissioner Claire Gilmore and Falkirk Council to take action, protect our jobs, our trade, our commerce and our people.

We are asking that the following be considered

1. Bring in another Bus Company to shore up the gaps that First cannot cover

2. Re-instate the early service for commuters on early shifts

3. Re-organise affected timetables more appropriately in order to meet connections

4. Challenge operators robustly for delayed or cancelled services

5. Communicate more efficiently when services are delayed or cancelled
